The Color Guard

The color guard at Sweetwater High School is part of the marching band.  Through the use of costume, equipment, and movement, the color guard members present an exciting visual element to the marching show.  The guard is also an important part of the band at parades, pep rallies, and other events.

Equipment used can include flags, rifles, sabers, and props which may be spun, tossed, moved, or even thrown.  Movement may range from the ability to march, dance, run, and present varying theatrical moves to bring the show to a spectacular level of artistry and sophistication.

Guard members are expected to receive training at a color guard camp during the summer.  All members are required to attend a camp together of their director's choice, but individuals may attend other additional camps if they wish.  Training and show preparation will be given at the Sweetwater Band Camp starting in August. Instruction will continue in band class and outside of school rehearsal times.

Color guard is open to anyone who wants to be a part of it.  Sign ups, preliminary training, and auditions happen near the end of the previous school year.  Joining after these proceeding will be left up to the color guard instructor and head band director, e.g. school transfers.
